Junior League
The Junior League competition was introduced over 6 years ago in order to provide a regular competition format for juniors who play at clubs across the metropolitan area. The participating clubs are currently: Glenelg, PAOC, Ranges and Sturt. The main aim of the competition is for juniors to gain experience in playing a competition format and in playing against different players at different venues, with the emphasis on participation rather than on winning.

Pilot Scheme

SOUTH AUSTRALIA TO PILOT JUNIOR PROGRAM
30.03.06 12:34
Badminton Australia announced today a new pilot project for juniors which will increase the quality and quantity of talented junior players progressing into the national High Performance Program with the ultimate goal of increasing the sports competitiveness internationally at the senior level.

In a press release this morning, Badminton Australia announced the setting up of the first of the State/Territory/Regional in South Australia as a pilot project to develop the most appropriate model for elite junior development in SA. The pilot project in SA will be for two years – 2006 and 2007 season and aims to integrate coach development. The State squad will be supported by the Badminton Australia’s National Coaches – in particular the National Junior Coach (NJC), who will outline the core elements in the training program.

The key elements of State/Territory/Regional squads include:

  • Squad sizes will vary from State to State - between 16-20, with mixed gender and ages;
  • The selection of the squad is completed by the State/Territory at the beginning of the calendar year in discussion with the National Junior Coach (NJC);
  • The squad is to train at least 5 sessions per week over a 10 month period under the guidance of a head coach;
  • The core elements of the coaching program will be determined by the NJC and distributed at National Development Squad camps. These plans will be reviewed regularly by the NJC and squad coaches.

With financial and coaching support from Badminton Australia, together with the integration of up to three national junior camps the State/Territory/Regional junior squads will:

Enhance player pathways;

Ensure more elite junior players with better tactical and technical physical skills;

Provide better quality coach opportunities for talented juniors locally;

Ensure athletes are well prepared (physically and mentally) for national junior training camps;

Provide valuable opportunities for coach education and development opportunities;

Increase quantity of players competing at a higher level.
